1. Purpose

Illini2Illini is built to help UIUC students find housing in a structured, safe, and trustworthy environment.

These guidelines define what is allowed on the platform and what is not.

By using Illini2Illini, you agree to follow these rules.

2. Core Principles

All users are expected to:

  • Be honest
  • Be respectful
  • Be clear and accurate
  • Act in good faith

If you’re unsure whether something is appropriate, it probably isn’t.

3. Listing Guidelines

You MUST:

  • Post only housing you are authorized to share

  • Provide accurate and complete information

  • Use real photos of the unit (no misleading images)

  • Clearly state:

    • Rent
    • Availability
    • Room type

  • Keep descriptions truthful and not exaggerated

You MUST NOT:

  • Post fake or non-existent listings
  • Misrepresent price, availability, or conditions
  • Use stock photos or unrelated images
  • Post duplicate or spam listings
  • List properties you do not have rights to sublease or advertise

4. Communication Guidelines

When contacting or being contacted:

You MUST:

  • Communicate respectfully
  • Be clear and direct
  • Respect boundaries

You MUST NOT:

  • Harass, threaten, or pressure other users
  • Send spam or repeated unwanted messages
  • Mislead users during conversations
  • Ask for sensitive personal or financial information unnecessarily

5. Prohibited Content and Behavior

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Scams or fraudulent activity
  • Impersonation of another person
  • Hate speech or discriminatory behavior
  • Illegal activity of any kind
  • Posting malicious links or harmful content
  • Attempting to exploit or bypass platform rules

6. Safety Guidelines (Strongly Recommended)

Illini2Illini does not mediate transactions. You are responsible for your own safety.

We strongly recommend:

  • Never send money without verifying the listing
  • Meet in person or request a video tour
  • Verify lease terms directly with landlords when possible
  • Do not share sensitive personal information
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels off, walk away

7. Reporting and Enforcement

Users can report listings that violate these guidelines.

What happens when a listing is reported:

  • Listings may be reviewed and removed immediately
  • Users may be warned, restricted, or banned
  • Listings with multiple reports may be automatically removed

Enforcement is:

  • At our sole discretion
  • Not subject to appeal or explanation

8. Account Consequences

Violations may result in:

  • Listing removal
  • Temporary suspension
  • Permanent account ban

Serious violations may lead to immediate termination without warning.

9. No Platform Responsibility

Illini2Illini does not:

  • Verify listings
  • Guarantee user behavior
  • Mediate disputes

You are responsible for your interactions and decisions.

10. Changes to Guidelines

These guidelines may be updated at any time.

Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance.
