Our Story
Illini2Illini started with a simple frustration.
At UIUC, finding housing is harder than it should be.
Students searching for apartments, roommates, or subleases are forced to jump between scattered platforms—Reddit threads, Facebook groups, leasing portals, spreadsheets, and university boards. There’s no single place where everything lives, and even when you do find something, it’s often incomplete, outdated, or hard to trust.
At the same time, demand for housing has only increased.
With rising enrollment and policies like the new University Housing lottery system, more students are pushed into uncertain housing situations. Instead of a predictable process, many now rely on last-minute options, temporary arrangements, or fragmented listings across the internet.
The result is a system that is:
- Hard to navigate
- Time-consuming
- Unstructured
- Often unreliable
Illini2Illini was built to fix that.
What We’re Building
Illini2Illini is a UIUC-only housing marketplace designed to make it easier for students to find and share housing opportunities.
Instead of unstructured posts and scattered information, the platform provides:
- Structured listings with all essential details
- Powerful filtering to quickly find relevant options
- Verified UIUC users to improve trust and safety
- A centralized place for the entire student community
It’s not a leasing platform, and it doesn’t handle payments or contracts.
It’s simply a better way for students to find each other and connect.
Why Verification Matters
One of the biggest problems with existing platforms is trust.
Anyone can post on Reddit or Facebook. It’s often unclear:
- Who the person is
- Whether the listing is real
- Whether the information is accurate
Illini2Illini solves this by requiring:
- A verified
@illinois.eduemail - A completed profile
- Identity tied to a real UIUC student
This creates a safer, more reliable environment where students can interact with confidence.

Illini2Illini is built by a fellow UIUC student who experienced these problems firsthand.
The goal isn’t to build a company-first product.
It’s to build something that:
- Actually helps students
- Reduces stress during housing searches
- Brings structure to a chaotic system
No monetization. No hidden incentives.
Just a tool designed to make housing at UIUC easier.
